Hello to everyone,
We are open and growing again. We hope to see more of you on a Sunday morning so that we can enjoy each other in person. Come to church this Sunday, November 21st at 10:30 AM. Our guest speaker is The Reverend Ann Fox, Minister Emerita, Unitarian Memorial Church, Fairhaven, MA.
After careers in teaching secondary English, motherhood, and technical writing in software research and development, the Reverend Ann Fox made a midlife career change and earned a Master of Divinity from Boston University School of Theology. She was the interim minister in Kingston, Ontario, Canada for two years before being called to Unitarian Memorial Church in Fairhaven in 2001, from which she retired in 2014. She now assists with pastoral care at that church. In her retirement, she enjoys reading, gardening and walking with her spouse and spending time with her grandchildren (still mostly on Zoom these days 😊).
Our sermon for this Sunday is "Cultivating Hope”. One writer says, “Hope is not optimism.” In these times of extreme political division fear can too easily invade our lives. Our young inauguration poet, Amanda Gorman said, “…there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it.” The antidote to fear is hope. How can we cultivate it?
“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all - ---Emily Dickinson
