“What Are We Waiting For?”
This is the Christian season of Advent, a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. What does this season mean for us today? What are we waiting for?
This is the Christian season of Advent, a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. What does this season mean for us today? What are we waiting for?
"Which U are U?" Our sermon for December 3rd. Our guest is Nicholas Boke, former minister of the Chester, VT, UU church who will speak about the two conjoined branches of Unitarian Universalism, stressing the theological origins of each and how they seem to be manifesting themselves in the early 21st century.
Rev Paul Langston-Daly will join us on Sunday November 26th. The sermon this week will be “Savoring Democracy”.
What does it means to be part of a democracy? What values do we express in this form of government? How is our approach to democracy different now than in the past? Today we will explore democracy and the values we hold as UU's.
The topic of the sermon is "Burr Season" and the synopsis is this: Autumn is the season of completion and harvest. While we often associate it with fall fruits--the pumpkins and apples that will grace our Thanksgiving tables--I've always associated it with a less friendly autumn product: burrs. The burrs that we find sticking to our clothes in autumn carry more than seeds.
Fall of the year and of our time of Thanksgiving call us to thoughts not only of gratitude but of its source--the planet that is our sustaining Mother, and of what we owe to it. Thoreau's first speech to the Concord Lyceum began with the words "I would speak a word for Nature..." Today let's fathom what this means, going perhaps more deeply than usual in our awareness of that bond.
Sunday, November 5th's sermon is titled, “The Sin of the Sodomites” and will be led by Rev Richard Trudeau.
When right-wing preachers use the story of Sodom and Gomorrah to condemn gay people, they are missing the story’s actual point! Come and see what this story is really all about. Knowledge is the most powerful tool that we humans possess.
Our service starts at 10:30 AM.The title of our sermon will be "Semper Reformanda". October 31,2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the start of the Protestant Reformation, when Martin Luther published his “Ninety-five Theses” or “Disputation on the Power of Indulgences.” The idea that the church is “always to be reformed” is a legacy of the Reformation. What does this mean for Unitarian Universalism today?
Our sermon this week will be entitled “A TOUR OF HELL”. Might just be an appropriate journey into the background for the season, or maybe not. Stop by and see for yourself.
As Halloween looms, what has made it surpass Thanksgiving in popularity among Americans? Is fear outward--or inward. All are invited to A Tour of Hell for clues, and along the way to ascertain where hell itself is and how to recognize it. Why don't you come (and bring a friend), and just maybe you will find an answer to your questions.
On Sunday, October 15th, we will be welcoming back, Rev Paul Langston-Daley to The Unitarian Church in Fall River at 309 North Main Street, Fall River. Our service starts at 10:30 AM. Our sermon this week is "Both Sides of the Fence"- What does it mean to belong? Many of us struggle at times in our lives to be seen, honored and loved for who we are, especially those who identify as transgender, or outside the binary. Today we explore what it means to find a place where one can live in community, with authenticity and integrity.
The Unitarian Church will be opening its doors on September 3rd with the Rev Richard Trudeau leading our service. The topic of the service is "Why Be Good? Unitarian Universalism's Two Contradictory Answers." We seem to be unable to avoid this question, and unable to answer it. We have been taught to be kind, to love our neighbors. But, always in the background, is the lingering question, "Why Be Good?" Come to our first service at 10:30 AM on Sunday, September 3rd and just maybe you will find the answer. Immediately, following the service, join us for our Pot Luck Lunch.
